Sea of Thieves – Yo, ho, ho and a bottle of rum!
After a long break, Rare studio revealed, at E3 2015, their new project: Sea of Thieves. A year later, on Microsoft’s stage at E3 2016, Sea of Thieves received new trailers, including one with gameplay sequences, as well as a new gallery of pictures.
Sea of Thieves is an MMO game where players will have the opportunity to become pirates. They will be able to organize themselves into crews, navigate aboard their ships and fight against other similar crews to obtain the ocean supremacy and unimaginable treasures. A special focus will be put on teamwork, the game is designed around the concept of cooperation.
In the game, you will be able to customize pretty much everything on your pirate character, from clothes, your hook, your beard, hairstyle, and weapons. You will be able to interact with various traders throughout your journey as a pirate and based on this, your reputation will increase and you will unlock different rewards, as well as completing quests or Voyages as they are called in Sea of Thieves. With every pirate that you will recruit on your ship you will unlock new quests, so keep an eye out on expanding your crew. More pirates equal more opportunities.
The combat is both on food and at sea. On land, you can use a pistol to fight your enemies, like skeletons, or a sword when fighting actual humans. You will encounter a naval combat, which is a huge part of the game. As a player, you will have to load each cannon before aiming and shooting at enemy ships. Every detail that is known to us by now can be watched in the gameplay video found at the beginning of the article, so go and have a look.
The rare studio also released the Closed Beta test session for Sea of Thieves that will take place until January 31. In the beta test session, players will have the opportunity to explore a part of Sea of Thieves world, as the producers wish to keep the surprises for the final version of the game. However, you can enjoy several activities like hunting for hidden treasures by following the map and solve the riddles encountered in your quests, sailing with your crew or by yourself if you’re feeling like a lone wolf, exploring the dangers of the pirate world and engaging in amazing ship battles.
To be able to take part of the Closed Beta session, players will need to place a pre-order for the game. The participants will not have any restrictions regarding gameplay streaming or publishing pictures from the game. In addition, those who choose to place a pre-order for Sea of Thieves will also receive the Black Dog Pack in-game bonus back.
Sea of Thieves will offer full cross-platform functionality between Xbox One and PC (Windows 10), this being included in the Xbox Play Anywhere program, with a simultaneously planned release on both Xbox One and PC (Windows 10). The game will be launched on March 20, 2018.
